Musical Theatre Exploration & Enjoyment

The KIDS ACADEMY is our DAYTIME musical theatre intensive for students looking for an exploration of the skills involved in the world of musical theatre.

Open to rising 4th & 5th graders.


All programming in summer 2023 will be in-person with health & safety as our upmost priority!

  • Students will spend their 5 days in classes studying Acting, Dance, and Voice culminating in a showcase of the skills learned throughout the week.


  • DEADLINES:

    • Registration for the Kids Academy is due no later than July 1, 2023 at 11:59pm EDT.

  • PROGRAM DATES: KIDS ACADEMY

    • Monday, July 17 thru Friday, July 21, 2023

    • Monday, July 24 thru Friday, July 28, 2023

      • Daily Monday thru Friday from 9:00am-3:00pm

        • Optional Extended care available from 8:00-9:00am and 3:00-5:00pm


KIDS Academy students will spend their day focusing on the exploration of singing, dancing, and acting through games and technical exercises.

Classes may include:

  • MUSICAL THEATRE

    • Acting — improvisation, character study, acting games

    • Dance — musical theatre dance techniques

    • Voice — group voice lessons, interpretation, singing games

Class sizes will remain small (8-10 students per class) to ensure personalized attention between teacher and students.


All listed times are Eastern Daylight Time (EDT).

Dates and times are subject to change as below is only a sample schedule.

  • MORNING:

    • 9:00am: Morning Meeting

    • 10:45am: Morning Break

    • 11:00am: Class 3

      • Voice, Improv, Movement

    • 11:45am: Lunch Break (brown bag)

  • AFTERNOON:

    • 12:30pm: Class 4

      • Dance, Voice, Acting

    • 1:15pm: Class 5

      • Dance, Voice, Acting

    • 2:00pm: Class 6

      • Dance, Voice, Acting

    • 2:45pm: Afternoon Meeting

    • 3:00pm: Dismissal

We are so excited in 2023 to be returning to our Academy campus at Our Lady of Good Counsel High School in Olney, MD.


The Performing Arts Center @ Good Counsel is located on the campus of the Our Lady of Good Counsel High School in Olney, MD.

The three-story, 26,000 square-foot, state-of-the-art Performing Arts Center includes multiple performance and rehearsal spaces, including:

a 650-seat proscenium theatre, set design and construction shop, dressing rooms, fully equipped orchestra pit, costume and properties shops, black box theatre, dance studio, and arts education classroom:

When not in class or rehearsing for the production, Academy students will have the opportunity to participate in extracurricular recreational activities which may include:

All students are automatically accepted into the Academy program upon registration.

Students should register by June 1, 2023 at 11:59pm EDT to guarantee a spot in the program.

KIDS Academy

  • Early-Bird Discount: ($100 discount)

    • $1,195 (automatically applied at registration through March 1, 2023)

  • Regular Tuition:

    • $1,295 per two-week fully in-person session

  • Extended Care (Optional Add-on):

    • $300/week: 1 hour before + 2 hours after (MUST sign up for full week package.)

 

Payment:

  • A deposit of $250 is due upon registration

  • 2nd payment of half of the remaining balance is due by May 1, 2023 (non-refundable).

  • Final balance due on June 1, 2023 (non-refundable).

  • Alternative payment plans can be arranged by contacting info@yaa.org.

Tuition Includes:

  • All classes, rehearsals, and social activities

  • A one-week summer theatre experience that you won't soon forget!

Cancellation Policy: Should you need to withdraw from the program for any reason, please inform us in writing. If you have any funds due to you based on the above policy, we will return them immediately to the credit card on file in your account.

  • PLEASE NOTE FOR ALL PROGRAMS: Should we need to cease in-person programming for health and safety reasons, YAA will replace the cancelled in-person sessions with similar virtual ones and there will be no tuition refunds or adjustments for this change.


  • Those who wish to be considered for a scholarship or financial aid need to submit an application to us no later than June 1, 2023.

+ What is the difference between KIDS Academy and Junior Academy?

The main difference is that KIDS Academy is created specifically for rising 4th & 5th graders that runs Monday thru Friday for 2 weeks, while Junior Academy is a two-week program geared towards 6th thru 8th graders, culminating in a fully staged production.

KIDS Academy students are on campus daily from 9:00am-3:00pm.

Junior Academy students are on campus daily from 8:30am-4:00pm.

Both programs will be fully in-person in 2023, and ill take place at the Performing Arts Center @ Our Lady of Good Counsel High School in Olney, MD.
