Auditions for the YAACompany are open to all singers, actors, and dancers in Grades 9-12 + Gap Year located in Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, DC.

Eligibility

For Spring 2022, there are two rounds of auditions for the YAACompany:

  1. The first round of auditions will be taking place ONLINE via VIDEO AUDITIONS submitted through our Acceptd platform. Submissions are due Friday, December 3, 2021 by 11:59pm.

    • ALL applicants must submit a First Round video audition (even those who were in Joseph in the fall)

  2. The second round of auditions will take place IN-PERSON on Saturday, December 4, 2021 and will consist of the following:

    • Dance audition for ALL applicants

    • Vocal callback for anyone interested in a solo or understudy role in the production.

      • (Students auditioning for only an ensemble role do not need to sing in person, but DO need to attend the dance audition.)

      • In-person singing callbacks slots will be scheduled at the time you submit your video auditions via Acceptd.

Audition Registration

Online audition registration and video submission must be completed by Friday, December 3, 2021 at 11:59pm EDT.

There is a $30 application fee. Please note that the fee is only required on your first application of the season. If you have already submitted an application this season, please enter the following coupon code in the payment section of the application: 02YAA01

Applicants can apply for a waiver to this application fee by submitting financial documentation to Acceptd. Please visit the Acceptd Support Desk for more information.

Audition Requirements

All students applying for YAACompany will need to participate in a VOICE as well as a DANCE audition.

VOICE AUDITIONS:

  1. Submit TWO Videos Vocal Audition (ONLINE)

    • FIRST VIDEO SELECTION (Mandatory):

      • a musical theatre or jazz standard selection of your choice that best shows off your voice.

        • Ballad or uptempo are fine.

        • Complete song or 32-bar cut are both acceptable.

        • It’s best to present a song that you know well and can perform from memory, not one that was just learned a few days prior.

      • Returning participants from Joseph must start a new application for AIDA on Acceptd and resubmit your personal solo selection so that the entire artistic staff can review it as part of this spring audition.

    • SECOND VIDEO SELECTION (Mandatory if auditioning for solo/understudy):

      • one of the songs below from the production, prepared in advance and accompanied by the piano tracks linked below:

        • ANY VOICE TYPE:

          • The Past is Another Land

        • SOPRANO/ALTO:

          • Every Story is a Love Story

          • Easy as Life

        • TENOR/BASS:

          • Fortune Favors the Brave

        • Download sheet music for the above show excerpts

          • **Note: Students are invited to prepare any of the above songs that best fit their voice. Casting of solo roles and ensemble roles will be open to a wide and diverse casting process by the Artistic team.

  2. Vocal Callback (IN-PERSON)

    • Students who wish to be considered for a solo or understudy in the production, will also be invited to an IN-PERSON vocal callback audition on Saturday, December 4, 2021.

      • Students who wish to only be considered for an ensemble role in the production do not need to do a vocal callback audition. However they must attend the dance audition (see #2 above).

    • Upon completion of your Acceptd application, students will be invited to select a 30-minute audition slot between 11:30-4:00pm on December 4 at our YAA@HolyCross campus.

    • At the vocal callback audition, students will be asked to sing LIVE their chosen excerpt from AIDA that they submitted in video #2 above.


DANCE AUDITIONS:

  1. Dance Audition (IN-PERSON)

    • ALL students will be required to attend an IN-PERSON dance audition on Saturday, December 4, 2021 from 10:00-11:15am.

      • Everyone will learn the choreography as a group, and then break into smaller groups for the dance audition.

      • Please wear comfortable clothing that you can move in as well as jazz shoes if you own them.

Acceptance

You will be notified if you have been accepted into the YAACompany by e-mail by Tuesday, December 7, 2021 by 10:00pm.

Those who are accepted into the YAACompany will have to accept their position by paying their tuition no later than Friday, December 10, 2021 at 11:59pm.

Location

All YAACompany rehearsals will take place IN-PERSON in 2021-2022.

Regular rehearsals take place at our YAA@HolyCross campus at the Academy of the Holy Cross in Kensington, MD.
