AUDITIONS FOR YAACompany

Grades 9-12 + Gap Year

Auditions for the YAACompany are open to all singers, actors, and dancers in Grades 9-12 + Gap Year located in Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, DC.

Eligibility

For Fall 2022, there are two rounds of auditions for the YAACompany:

  1. The first round of auditions will be taking place ONLINE via VIDEO AUDITIONS submitted through our Acceptd platform.

  2. The second round of auditions will take place IN-PERSON on Thursday, September 8 and Saturday, September 10, 2022 and will consist of the following:

    • Dance audition for ALL applicants

    • Vocal callback for anyone interested in a solo or understudy role in the production.

      • (Students auditioning for only an ensemble role do not need to sing in person, but DO need to attend the dance audition.)

      • In-person singing callbacks slots will be scheduled at the time you submit your video auditions via Acceptd.

Audition Registration

Online audition registration and video submission must be completed by Wednesday, September 7, 2022 at 11:59pm EDT.

There is a $30 application fee. Please note that the fee is only required on your first application. For any subsequent applications, please enter the following coupon code in the payment section of the application: 02YAA22

Applicants can apply for a waiver to this application fee by submitting financial documentation to Acceptd. Please visit the Acceptd Support Desk for more information.

Audition Requirements

All students applying for YAACompany will need to participate in a VOICE as well as a DANCE audition.

AUDITIONS:

  1. Submit Video Vocal Audition (ONLINE)

    • a musical theatre or jazz standard selection of your choice that best shows off your voice.

      • Ballad or uptempo are fine.

      • Complete song or 32-bar cut are both acceptable.

      • It’s best to present a song that you know well and can perform from memory, not one that was just learned a few days prior.

  2. Dance Audition (IN-PERSON)

    • ALL students will be required to attend an IN-PERSON dance audition on Thursday, September 8, 2022 from 7:00-9:00pm.

      • We will learn the choreography as a group, and then break into smaller groups for the dance audition.

      • Please wear comfortable clothing that you can move in as well as jazz shoes if you own them.

  3. Vocal Callback (IN-PERSON)

    • Students who wish to be considered for a solo or understudy in the production, will be invited to an IN-PERSON vocal callback audition on Saturday, September 10, 2022.

      • Students who wish to only be considered for an ensemble role in the production do not need to do a vocal callback audition. However they must attend the dance audition (see #2 above).

    • Upon completion of your Acceptd application, students will be invited to select an 8-minute Vocal Callback audition slot on 9/10 at our YAA@Churchill campus.

    • For the vocal callback audition, students are asked to prepare ONE of the excerpts below from the production:

Acceptance

You will be notified if you have been accepted into the YAACompany by e-mail by Sunday, September 11, 2022.

Those who are accepted into the YAACompany will have to accept their position by paying their tuition no later than Wednesday, September 14, 2021 at 11:59pm.

Students who are accepted into the Fall YAACompany are automatically accepted into the Ensemble for the Spring Production as well. Students can secure their spot in the Spring production by registering and paying a discounted tuition for the entire year after being accepted in the fall. If a student is interested in a solo role in the Spring production, they will have to audition for that in December.

Location

All YAACompany rehearsals will take place IN-PERSON in 2022-2023.

Regular rehearsals take place at our YAA@HolyCross campus at the Academy of the Holy Cross in Kensington, MD.

Season Repertoire

The YAACompany will spend this school year season preparing two mainstage productions.

  • The Fall production will be performed in December 2022 at the Music Center at Strathmore.

  • The Spring production will be performed in April 2022 at the Music Center at Strathmore as well as at Maryland Public Television.
